Straight To My Head
05:30
|
|||
Come on now, ‘cause I need you to put it straight to my head
I’m so tired of the wasted words falling out of each breath
Just today, well, you asked me to leave you there at the shore
But all in all, I could never go without you anymore
Somehow all of my pieces were falling out at the seams
But none of those were as beautiful as the place you taught me to see
Sun set low on an open sky, the nighttime is a wreath
Falling off of your shoulders as you hold me underneath
Now you tell me that you know
The end’s coming close
And you tell me it’s okay
Just to go on my way
Well, my lover
I thought we said not to lie
So I’m surprised
I ruled my own on a lonely throne, I thought it’s all I could hold
Then you opened your arms to me and we broke it back into stone
Built our home with the half of it, and gave the rest away
And now you tell me there’s nothing new and there’s nothing more to say
Well, you can journey far from home
You can dive deep on your own
You can step right off the track
But I’d better see you back
See you walking tall
With a smile all your own
No more to roam
Anybody, stop to help me scream my love
We’ll harmonize and between our cries is what we’re made of
Is it hiding behind those eyes or is it lost?
Don’t have time for any lies, now, we can’t stand the cost
Come on now, ‘cause I need you to put it straight to my head
I’m so tired of pretending I can’t see what’s just up ahead
I see the lights in the hills at night and I see the fire in the stone
I’m almost there and still I swear I won’t be going alone

Lived In Life
05:03
|
|||
This is the day when all walls will crumble down
This is the sound when feet finally leave ground
And this is the scene when the script stops repeating
A beauty to see, ‘cause now we’re not dreaming anymore
The new village green from our strings comes a’streamin' out
The city of things will soon be receding, now
There’s no need to roam the wide world for answers
Your life’s in your hands, if you stand and reach for it today
Gotta learn to live with all the beasties that got summoned up
Summoned by the deeds of those who lived a lie from head to toe
Take them all to heart and burn them bright
Then march in line to melt the face of holy night
I tucked Rosie in, I told her I love her so
She told me she worried about all the sounds below
I walked to the window, lit by the horizon line
Said, “I am your shield from here to wherever you may fly”
We won’t learn to throw away
What only comes back anyway
And none of our love needed proof
Or stages to display its truth
With the wind we ran, clasping hands
And chasing signs that all those eyes could understand
The rain will come down and wind will howl around the doors
We will learn more than we could have learned before
And sight will be seen and dreams will be lived in life again
And nothing will fall when all know on what we all depend

Loretta's Ghost
04:58
|
|||
California wrecked my mind
So I headed back on home
Shacked up in a tenement hall
With some friends from long ago
Down the street lay a little house
Where I wandered by one day
There I met sweet Loretta
And things have never been the same
We both agreed that it did seem
We’d met ourselves before
Somewhere in another time,
In another corridor
And it would seem we’d been in love
And blazed a path anew
Sometimes you want these things so much
That they might as well be true
And I don’t want to be clever now
‘Cause I know exactly how I feel
When I’m wrapped up in your arms, I know I’m real
And I don’t care about you fading out
Of my sight every time we kiss
I don’t care; there’s nothing else as good as this
I promise to believe you now
I promise to believe you now
Soon I left those friends behind; they saw nothing new in me
They spoke of those old days when I had crawled upon these streets
I can’t believe I’d never seen that house along the way
If I had known you long ago, I never would have strayed
But something’s gotta have it in for us
The skies are shifting overhead
Cold wind spinning round in circles through our bed
And then when finally the skies attacked
And rain it got to pouring in
I finally looked around to see the shape we’re in
Slowly I began to see the fading of my lonely dream
The walls are crumbling around me, mold is growing on the sheets
And every day, you slip more away
And now I know I never once felt you breathe
I promise I will leave you now
I promise I will leave you now
Soon I left those ruins behind and I headed for the waves
The skies were opened in my wake, pouring light upon my rain
So now nobody knows the way, and we must start anew
But I want you to believe me now, I’ll do it all for you

Clarion Call
03:48
|
|||
Get myself antsy and I fall to the street
Everything after is worn at the knees
Crying for Salvation Army disguise
But I think I see what’s right behind your eyes
And I beg of you, baby, let me know
Just what you want from me, baby, that’s all
All that I see of you day after day,
I don’t care nothing for you, nothing that you say
Feeling I’m out of time, waving my hands
At the hypnotized drummers of the Salvation Band
And if the time came that I’d see you again
The wind cracks down- whiplash- and dawn it rolls in
And baby, I don’t know what’s wrong,
Wrong with me searching for you long after you’ve gone
Oh, do you know what’s right? All I know is what’s good
For me and for you
I’m running out of time, and you know what that means
I’m coming back for you to the land where the wind breathes,
Blows through the city skies night after night
I’m coming for you, coming for you, don’t sleep tonight
And I beg of you, baby, what’s wrong,
Wrong with me searching for you long after you’ve gone
Oh, do you know what’s right? All I know is what’s good
For me and for you
Oh baby, come on now, please
Oh baby, I’m weak in the knees

Someone Didn't
04:19
|
|||
Someone didn’t ask if they should
Someone didn’t know if they could
Someone couldn’t see so good
And someone didn’t ask if I would
Someone forgot all that they owe
Someone didn’t know when to go
Someone did it all for show
And someone didn’t think that I’d know
No one, and nothing to see
Stepped in-between and opened the seam
No one heard anything
I wrapped it up nicely and sat by the stream
Someone couldn’t help but wait
Someone left it all to fate
Someone didn’t move till too late
And someone didn’t set one thing straight
Someone didn’t know the odds
Someone didn’t think of the cause
Someone left it out in the rain
And someone thinks it’s time to complain
No one walks by the bay
There’s too many secrets down under the waves
No one knows what to say
So that’s where you’ll find me at the end of the day

Forgive Me, Brother
03:34
|
|||
Forgive me, brother
But I just could not be that man
Yes, I swear
I walked, I crawled,
I gave it all, but in the end what did I get?
An IOU on a printed slip
If it’s easier, I could just go home instead
And sit in bed
‘Cause I watched, I read,
Heard all you said but still it seems I failed your test
So I’d like some rest
It’s easier to let the bigheads lead
They get their practice all night in the sheets
They know the crowd
Both in and out
They know what they know and they told me so
They see the world as one big jelly roll
Just waiting to
Be entered into
Your engine’s breathing, but it breeds no life inside
For you or I
You run, you stall,
You took the mold of some old soul to make things roll
And you left me cold
I’m no soldier but I know I’m your clown
You laugh when I get down
And all I want is for your boys to all be laughing when it’s done
When your battle’s won
My brother, I still see you in my sleep
The way we held hands when you had to weep
When mother called
And all was solved
My brother, I’ll stand as the curse goes by
I’ll gather my lines from the falling sky
And in the end
We’ll meet again

Black Cloak
04:23
|
|||
Feeling out of place,
The lady clasps her hands
In this strange, strange time
Rolling over the water, now
Again
Drifting into the night
Can’t remember the fall
But she hears the call
And she’ll answer it this time
Stepping off on the shore,
The black cloak curls behind
Like the smoke in the sky
With her fluttering eyes
She scans the night
For the carriage lights
Ready for the dark drive
Out past the pines
To the town and her shrine
Sun easy rising over the winding hills
Faces leaning out from windowsills,
Greeting hoofbeats streaming down from the gate
The children screaming “why has she come so late?”
“I have seen everything”
She cries with blinded eyes
As she steps to the street
And she waddles around
Like she can’t stand
Like she’s still on the sea
Then she points to the sky,
Says “there’s no more time,
But there’s still more to see”
With heat now rising, waters begin to steam
Everybody running to the stream
Passing through the gate of the shrine so tall
Clasping hands and into water all fall
As the scenery burns,
She’s rising through the sky
Blending with the mist
Scattered seven times
The cloak is curling out
Casting down her signs
Forming on the land
A thousand tiny shrines
The flames end all the life
And the cloak wraps up all time
The people are as one
Into the sea they dive

Feel The Air
04:40
|
|||
When you go out to feel the air
You could smile just sitting there
But now you want something to see
So come along and walk with me
Down to where the streets unfold
And you can find
Life all written out in lines
By some crazy scribe
You’ll see all that he believes
Strung up so bright
Stand stunned, but then please turn and run
Back to the night
I am a hard man from these streets
I come and bring you what you need
And if you think I’m outta whack
You might as well just put me back
Back to where you took me from
Inside your mind
Let’s see how well you get along
When I’m out of sight
You’ll need more than you perceive
To set things right
You’ll see more and more of me
As times get tight
There’s no way back to the trees
Inside the city symphony
Now you’re really chasing down a dream
Got your head down to the ground
Spacing out, just hoping I’ll
Turn down the lights and help you get back out
And in the dreaming times
Signs come a’streaming
Flowing so easy
Can’t help but believe them
Stagger by assembly lines
That shower bread upon our heads
And leave the rest just hanging by a thread
Thrown inside a strange new home
Cathedral dome
The skies alone can’t soothe the soul and ease us to our bones
Now I have heard
This parade has no permit
And all the engines
Soon will stop turning
So I need one who understands
To just forgive and to change our plans
I really want to sit in peace
Looking up at those big old trees
I want to see the land renewed
And watch it bloom
I want everybody to
Come down from their room
I want to kick the habit and
Find me some fun
I want to know there’s something new
Under the sun

Something Sweeter
05:15
|
|||
I can't stop thinking about my love
Everything seems to fall from above
And I've been thinking about the place that she went today
And I've been thinking about this town and it's wrecking me
I can't stop thinking about my love
She never seems to hear me when I call
And I've been thinking about the games that we always play
And I've been thinking about what I gave to her yesterday
Something sweeter than a kiss I left you there
Something sweeter than the flowers in your hair
It's just my way of giving and I’ve always some to spare
If you want to see me, now you know to come prepared
Living this lonely life ground me down
So I built me a home in this mountain town
I’m the old man on the hill with a house of gold
And it’s too late now, my soul has long been sold
I watch you on the town, wild and flowing free
Making me dream of all the things I’ll never be
Please don’t think about stepping ‘round anywhere I can’t see
You got something sweeter waiting right back home with me
Hey now baby, I’ve got ten cars waiting on the side of the county road
Everybody wants to know my name but no one wants to get too close
Step right in, I think you need a lift, I think it’s time we talked over this
You’re wrecking my mind, you know I’m running out of time, and all I want is your kiss
I’m on my back again, in the hall
Like I’ve been so many times before
Something’s clouding my eyes and it’s getting hard to see
I can feel it, something’s draining out of me
Something sweeter than a kiss was all you left
You got your once last chance to take away my breath
Now your love struck cold, but I’m getting used to it
As I watch you leave, I think I’ll finally take my rest

The Cave Dance
06:25
|
|||
There’s always time for tension
Then there’s time for some release
If you just want fucking information
You can get it from a priest
It’s my plan to roll away the stone
And see who’ll be the next in line
Step right in and find yourself in motion
There’s no need to prove yourself this time
Can you believe what it’s like in the cave dance?
Can you believe what it’s like in the cave dance?
Emptied all, emptied it all in here
For now there’s no need to step outside
After all of that, I can’t seem to hate you
I don’t want you fading from my eyes
Fires burning bright through the mazes of a mountain
Throwing life on the visions on the wall
I am ready, Lord, I am ready, lover
Twist my body back before I fall
Can you believe what it’s like in the cave dance?
Nobody makes it all on their own
You know I will be there for ya
When the morning it rolls o’er ya
Flowing to the sounds we all can hear
Rhythms pounding louder than our fears
Ah yes, the journey gets you drunk
But only the dance will lift you up
Then all fades, faces turn to see me
Not one single answer in those eyes
Fly from here to fights now fought forever
But at least now we can keep in time
